Tecumseh Public School is a K-8 school with under 400 students located in Old South in London, Ontario. The staff, students, and community are extremely supportive of new school initiatives that provide authentic and experiential learning experiences for the Tecumseh community.
The grant was used to purchase a Hydroponic Tower Garden Pro Growing System and update the school gardens. The Hydroponic Tower Garden will be located in the Library Learning Commons as it is the heart of the school. With the Hydroponic Tower Garden in the library all students and staff will have the opportunity to visit the Tower Garden. I believe that it is important for all students, staff, and community members to be able to see the garden and tower so they can be involved in the student learning process and experience and become invested in the process. Having a tower garden and outdoor garden instills responsibility and environmental stewardship and encourages healthy eating and improves the communities knowledge on gardening, agriculture, and food systems.
