North Park Secondary School is an exceptional high school in Brampton, Ontario, known for its business programs. Welcome to our friendly community of Love 1,345 students!
Our Breakfast Nutrition Program serves over 50 students every day, providing nutritious choices that ensure both satisfaction and satiety. The vision of this program is to build a community of inclusivity, celebrate diverse cultures, and offer a nutritious option each day, ensuring no student starts their morning without breakfast or goes to class feeling hungry. Our breakfast program is vital to our school community and we accomplish this vision by putting smiles on our students’ faces.
The Breakfast Program at North Park Secondary School, counting over 10 years, has served on average 50 students and continues to serve more. Supported by organizations like the YMCA, the Ontario Ministry of Children and Community and Social Services, it provides nutritious meals aligned with the Canadian Food Guide, focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables. Addressing the prevalent issue of child hunger in Canada, the program aims to enhance students’ well-being, improving their alertness, concentration, social skills, physical health, and academic performance. Our Breakfast Program volunteers and staff emphasize the importance of ensuring no child starts their day without breakfast or attends classes hungry.
Our first salad day bar initiative took place this year on the 2nd of May. Bringing together over 40 student volunteers and staff to help wash, cut and decorate fruits and greens, the set up for the salad bar was a great success! We served over 250 students and staff making this a big achievement for our program. Our slogan was to “pay with a smile” and we indeed made a fortune of sales with teeth showing and laughter echoing the servery.
Many students enthusiastically contributed to the event by selecting salads. It was a nutritious gathering that brought joy to numerous as we witnessed the smiles on the students’ faces. Feedback from students and staff included their appreciation for the diverse selection of toppings, dressings, and fruits. “The salads tasted really good!” students say.
“I liked the options of strawberries and spinach,” says another. The presentation and arrangement of the salads were highly praised, and there is eager anticipation for next year’s Salad Day Bar.
The Salad finished within the lunch period, and our volunteers’ hard work did not go in vain! Thanks to the Salad Bar’s success the breakfast nutrition program team has decided to continue our Salad day bar program and make it into an annual serving event.
The event was an exciting success, leaving permanent smiles on the faces of students, many of whom returned for seconds! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Breakfast Nutrition Program Volunteers, additional students, and staff members, with a special mention to Ms. Agyemang, for their exceptional contributions in ensuring the success of the Salad Day Bar.
