General Information
The rare Charitable Research Reserve is a community-based urban land trust and environmental institute that protects over 1,200 acres of highly sensitive lands across 7 properties in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. rare is also home to the Springbank Community Gardens, where we grow vegetables for our local food banks and teach students and campers about food sustainability at our education garden.
School groups can take a field trip to rare's Springbank Gardens to participate in hands-on gardening activities and learn about food sustainability and the value of eating local. We also offer an in-school vermicomposting program where one of our educators will visit your classroom to teach you about responsible waste management and help you set up a vermicomposting bin.
