ACT NOW was launched in BC, a cross-government health promotion initiative to improve the health of British Columbians by taking steps to address common risk factors and reduce chronic disease.
The BC Healthy Living Alliance receives ACT NOW funding and the Farm to School Salad Bar Initiative, was one of multiple “healthy eating” programs that was supported. This initiative was such a success, that the BC Ministry of Health invested to sustain farm to school initiatives. Today, the Farm to School BC (F2SBC) program continues to be facilitated by PHABC and to thrive. It now has 300+ participating schools and is supported by Community Animators in 8 regions in the province. The F2SBC Animator Model serves as one successful model for regional farm to school programming in Canada.
