General Information
Nanaimo Foodshare provides a variety of skills, tools and access to local and nourishing food to our community. Programs that directly engage with schools include food provisions, grow and cook classes and farm field trips.
Lunch Munch: delivered, high-nutrition food provisions for school-aged children throughout the year including muffins, salads, wraps and soups.
Grow Food/Get Cooking Camps: 5-day full day and 3 mini-day camps are offered during the SD68 Spring, Summer and winter breaks.
Let’s Eat! Kids Cooking Classes: in person kids learn different cooking techniques, knife skills and flavour combos to gain confidence making healthy and delicious meals they can recreate at home.
Kids Get Cooking Videos: 4-week cooking and nutrition program providing weekly ingredient kit to make a snack or side dish with videos and lesson plans for curricular connections, and Train-the-Trainer support.
Learn to Grow Facilitation (Spring and Fall): Passionate facilitators lead 30-90min outdoor ecology and food growing basics weekly with delegated tasks for you to complete with your group before they return to maintain your garden as a group.
Farm on Park Ave: Educational urban farm and community classroom. Group tours and weekly drop ins introduce you to large scale food growing, hands-on skills and fun ecological activities.
