Campbellton Middle School, Campbellton, NB
Plant a Seed and See What Grows Foundation Grant, 2024
Campbellton Middle School is home to approximately 190 students, catering to grades 5-8. Our school is nestled in the heart of Campbellton, a vibrant and diverse region known for its outdoor activities, access to Quebec, and a close knit community.
The grant has been transformative for our school. With the support of this grant, we’ve been able to provide students with opportunities to learn how to grow their own food, harvest foods (and seeds), and have access to fresh and healthy food. These changes have not only enriched our students’ learning experiences but also fostered a stronger sense of community within the school.
Our project focuses on promoting food literacy, sustainability, and healthy eating. We have been able to make salads and pesto. These initiatives have engaged students in hands-on learning and have provided them with valuable life skills. In February they will be providing a local Special Care home with lunch that will be prepared by the students.
“This program has opened up a whole new world for our students,” says Mme. Joelle. “It’s heartwarming to see them take pride in what they grow and eat. The skills they’re learning here will stay with them for a lifetime.”
