WILLIAMSPORT — Williamsport High School’s kitchen smelled like home cooking Tuesday as food-service workers were making “homemade” marinara sauce.
The sauce was being cryovaced so Washington County Public Schools students can enjoy it this school year, said Jody Francisco, manager of culinary development.
This is the first of four weeks where food-service workers are prepping or processing produce to store for use during the school year, Francisco said. They also will be preparing tricolored hash browns or home fries using different colored potatoes; pureeing strawberries and bananas for future smoothies; and prepping onion, celery and carrots to make a mirepoix, or starter kit, for soups because the school system is bringing soups back to school menus this year, he said.
