Biography

My name is Claire Sainsbury, I currently live about 3 kilometers outside of a

small community called Pinsent’s Arm. I live off grid in a small cove on the coast of Labrador with my partner and two dogs. I currently work with Conservation Corps NL as a Regional Supervisor and love the idea of working in the area of conservation.

I spend a lot of my time with my partner and 2 dogs out on the land; whether it is going to get our water, wood, or even just running or walking our dogs, I love to be outside with those I love most. I also have a deep passion for sports and exercise and spend at least 3 nights a week playing mostly volleyball and floor hockey; I also love to practice our traditional inuit games especially around the time of my favorite event, the Labrador Winter Games.

As I get older I find a deep passion for my health and especially through food. I love to cook and especially with local and traditional foods like moose, seal, rabbit, partridge, as well as, different types of foragables and seafood. I also love learning about different edible plants that are scattered across the land that we don’t even realize are free and healthy foods. That being said I am very excited to learn through the Circle so I can expand my knowledge on traditional foodways and the profound impact they have on people, their health and their wellbeing.
