Biography

Hello! My name is Diane Litman, and I am a Metis-Kitchwa-Latinx-Black woman living on Treaty 7 in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB). My family’s lineage is incredibly intricate and crosses over many lands, and I’ve been spending that last several years trying to understand and honour those identities. There is so much beauty in our diversity and I love being able to share in it and with it.

Speaking of diversity, I am a Diverse Learning Teacher in a French Immersion school and get to work directly with our most unique learners—who in actuality have been some of my greatest teachers. I am also a mother of a beautiful 5 year old boy and a Birth Keeper in my community–who specializes in supporting lifegivers with lactation (baby’s first food!) I feel very nourished from the work that I get to do, and grateful that both roles have allowed me to be more present in my own life’s journey and as a mother.

Food is Medicine! I feel so honoured to be apart of this circle and to be able to come together as a knowledge sharing community to listen, collaborate + reflect.
