Biography

Shay is a Secwepemc multi-media artist, graphic designer, facilitator, and community organizer who operates in unceded Secwepemc’ulucw Territory. Born with a passion for art, Shay has seamlessly woven her artistic pursuits with a profound commitment to advocacy work. Beyond the sketchbook, Shay dedicates her time to community initiatives. Volunteering has been a cornerstone of her life. She engages in various circles, with a specific focus into Indigenous food sovereignty and food security research. Organizing workshops, events, and resource initiatives, Shay has become a driving force for positive change within her community as well as outside of it. Having been granted opportunities to work within multiple rural Indigenous communities—Kasabonika Lake FN and Wapakeka FN in Treaty 9 Territory, Ontario, as well as Deh Gáh Got’ı̨ę FN in Treaty 11 Territory, NWT—she has immersed herself in various cultures and taken back valuable lessons and teachings from the people she worked beside.
