While BC was embracing the terminology of “farm to school” it was not alone in the concept of closing the gap between students and their food. Programs with similar values were emerging across the country and included a variety of school food programs – including urban salad bars – and school gardens to support food literacy. Programs in Quebec and New Brunswick emerged as early partners with a shared interest in emphasizing the service of local food in schools.
